Texas Cancer Genetics Consortium working group meeting

Friday, September 24, 1999

Members present: Chris Amos, Jihong Zong, Constance Johnson, Phillip Lum, Jerry Kyle (U.T. MD Anderson Cancer Center), Sue Hilsenbeck, Sharon Plon (Baylor College of Medicine).

The meeting started at 4:00pm and the items discussed were:

  1. Update on data collection tool
  2. Data file backup
  3. Field for families participating in two CGN sites
  4. Deadline for data transmission

Item 1:

Dr. Amos provided an update on the software development of data collection for the core data elements questionnaire (CGN questionnaire). The UT MDACC is the process of consolidating their existing databases into one application. The new system is designed to manage the information of family history, medical history, blood sample, tumor blocks, genetic testing for any cancer genetics research projects. CGN data collection tool will be part of the system. The data entry screens will be created in Visual Basic 6.0 and the data will be stored on SQL Server. Phillip Lum, programmer from MDACC, has completed the table design and currently is working on the data entry screen for CGN data elements. Once it’s completed, the tool will be available for other TCGC sites.

Item 2:

Dr. Hilsenbeck raised the issue of the data file backup. We may have to keep a copy of the file every time we send to UCI for possible future auditing.

Item 3:

Dr. Amos will sent a mail to UCI about the possibility of adding a field to indicate a family enrolled in two CGN sites.

Item 4:

The deadline of uploading data to UCI is scheduled at 10/1/1999. Currently, we don't have any data to transmit because the certificate of confidentiality is still not ready.

The meeting adjourned at 5:15pm. The time for next meeting was not specified.
